The history of European painting can be studied through its masterpieces - works that have become part of the golden fund of world culture and have had a huge impact on viewers, critics and other artists over the centuries. The 'History of Painting in Masterpieces', a project created by the staff of the Department of History of Art of the Russian State University of Fine Arts, will help you decipher the plot of a painting, discern curious details, learn more about its history and the fate of its creator. The second volume includes works by masters of the XVII and XVIII centuries. Its sections are devoted both to specific trends: Baroque, Classicism, Rococo and Neoclassicism, and to genres: portrait, landscape, still life. Each section opens with a thematic article and consists of a number of illustrated stories-descriptions devoted to specific works. In total there are more than 1000 illustrations, detailed descriptions of 140 paintings by 70 artists. The edition is designed for the widest range of readers, from art lovers to students of art history and cultural studies.
