'It's architecture that reflects, ripples in the water. It's clouds that pile up and break up. It's branches falling asleep, rain on leaves...' - this is what Jean Cocteau said about the works of the great French composer Claude Debussy, the founder of musical impressionism. This trend developed in the 80-90s of the XIX century. Impressionist composers, first of all C. Debussy and M. Ravel, strived to come as close as possible to the poetry of nature in their music, to convey by means of sounds the subtle worlds of human feelings and moods.
The CD 'Impressionism in Music' is addressed to a wide range of music lovers and professionals. The reader and listener will find in it creative portraits of many European and Russian composers of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Among them: Saint-Saëns, Satie and Duke, Reger and Mahler, Grieg and Bartok, Stravinsky and Scriabin (28 composers in all). In preparing the biographical material, in addition to authoritative encyclopedic reference books, we used editions of such famous French and Russian authors of the beginning of the last century as: R. Rolland, J. Thiersaud, J. Combarier, V. Karatygin, articles and memoirs of the composers themselves and their contemporaries. Biographical material about the composers is combined with the characteristics of their most significant works of different genres and accompanied by sounding musical fragments (total length of more than 6 hours). Colorful illustrative material - photographs, paintings of impressionist and symbolist artists, sketches of scenery and costumes complete the edition.
Total time of the edition - more than 6 hours. Over 250 illustrations. The volume of text - 6320 pages.
