The fate of the great Russian literature of the 20th century is complex and tragic. No other world literature of this time had such a boundless experience of anxiety, hopes, heightened moral quests, pain for the fate of the native people in the hour of danger. No other world literature of the XX century, except Russian, did not know such an extensive martyrologist, a list of untimely, early departed masters of culture. For almost 70 years Russian literature was in a state of 'split lyre', i.e. a rupture into two subsystems, two halves, Soviet and emigrant.
