Religion as an object of scientific study began to be perceived in the second half of the 19th century and owes its blossoming to the successes in the field of linguistics, philology, ethnography, mythology, folklore. The comparative study of languages clarified the mutual kinship of peoples, laying the foundations for the classification of language groups and families. Philology has deciphered ancient literary monuments in languages hitherto unknown, the works of ancient peoples came out in remarkable translations, with commentaries and appendices, and immediately became the subject of a separate study. But the life of ancient and new peoples was studied not only on the basis of literary works, but also on folk customs, morals and superstitions. All these studies gave building material for the emergence and development of the science of religions, the task of which is the study of religion, its essence and manifestations.
