Vera lives with her daughter Lisa and holds a small store. One day a stranger comes there and tells Vera information, after which she imitates a fire in her house and goes to Moscow with her daughter. There Lisa is arranged by an assistant in the house of businessman Kravchenko. At the same time, the ex -husband of Vera leaves prison and also comes to Kravchenko. He demands money from Kravchenko, otherwise he will tell his son Denis that he is not his own. Denis accidentally eavesdrops on this conversation, begins to behave inadequately and mock the servant. Kravchenko is forced to hire a new servant, and faith comes to him by an ad. Denis is also mocking faith, but she suffers everything and treats him with tenderness. Neither Lisa, nor Denis, nor the Kravchenko family realize that Vera was not just a servant.
