Degas Edgar

The disk is devoted to the history of life and work of the outstanding French painter and sculptor Edgar Degas. To what direction of painting to attribute the work of Degas - for a long time critics did not find an unambiguous answer. Some of them completely denied his commitment to impressionism. His works are characterized by unexpectedly bold movements of lines, strongly 'cropped' composition, reminiscent of an instant photograph, where the figures are shifted to the corner, and the central part of the canvas is a free space.
Degas was most interested in two themes: horse racing and ballet theater. Fragile and weightless figures of ballerinas appear before the viewer in the semi-darkness of dance classes, in the light of spotlights on the stage, and in short moments of rest.
The project includes a detailed article and a short block about the main stages of the artist's life and work, as well as an illustrative appendix, including more than 700 illustrations that allow you to trace the development of his work. In the program you will find images of such paintings as: 'Dance Classroom', 'Dancer on Stage', 'Blue Dancers', 'At the Races', 'Jockeys before the Races' and many others, and commentary on them.
The project is intended for a wide range of readers: it will be of interest both to lovers of painting and to students of art universities and researchers of 20th century art.
