The period in European history of the 6th-8th centuries has long been called the 'Dark Ages'. Early Middle Ages - the era of birth and formation of the foundations of the culture of European civilization, the beginning of a new path that was to pass mankind. It was the cradle of chivalry and monasticism, the time when the foundations of the system of moral and cultural values that modern society lives by to this day were laid.
But is it right to call those centuries 'dark'? What were they like - the people who once lived on the territory of modern France, Italy, Scandinavia, Ireland? How did the daily life of a king differ from that of a simple peasant?
The reader will find answers to these and many other questions by familiarizing himself with the disk 'History of Costume'. You will learn about what Emperor Charlemagne and his daughters wore, what a simple peasant Frank wore and what armor a warrior put on before the battle. You will visit the feast that was given in honor of his guests Byzantine Emperor and learn what the Scandinavian Jarl and Bond - a free Norwegian peasant - fed their guests. You will learn how the Vikings built their ships, get acquainted with medieval sword-making techniques, visit the school of the filidos - mysterious Irish poets, mystics and magicians, and the scriptorium of an Irish monastery. You will know what cloaks were in fashion in Gaul and how the wild Huns dressed, what Viking wives wore and what were the vestments of Byzantine churchmen.
The text is presented in a popular presentation, illustrated with numerous drawings by the author, as well as reproductions and photographs. The publication is intended for a wide range of readers.
