"Zinc Boys" is the third book in the artistic-documentary cycle "Voices from Utopia" by Svetlana Alexievich, a Nobel Prize laureate in Literature for "polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time." Without this book, which has long been a global bestseller, it is impossible to imagine the history of the Afghan war or the history of the final years of Soviet power, which were ultimately undermined by this war. The unceasing grief of mothers, their understandable desire to know the truth about why and for what their sons fought and died in Afghanistan. However, upon learning this truth, many of them were horrified and rejected it. Svetlana Alexievich's book was judged as "slander" - a real trial, with a prosecutor, public accusers, and "support groups" in power and in the press. The materials of this shameful trial are also included in the new edition of "Zinc Boys."
