Mikhail Nikolayevich Zagoskin is the most popular writer of the XIX century, playwright, nobleman, participant in the Patriotic War of 1812, director of Moscow theaters and the Moscow Armory. He became famous as the author of the first Russian historical novels, which became real bestsellers and were published with huge circulations. No wonder the hero of the immortal comedy Gogol "Auditor" Mr. Khlestakov attributes to himself the authorship of the novel "Yuri Miloslavsky, or Russians in 1612" - one of the most favorite books for many generations of readers. Roman came out in 1829 and immediately gained enthusiastic reviews of critics and the most brilliant recognition of the public. Belinsky predicted him a long and happy life for "noble love for the Fatherland", and Pushkin compared Zagoskin with Walter Scott.
