The historical novel "Younger Son" by D.M. Balashov (1927–2000), first published in 1975, is dedicated to the era of Daniil of Moscow, the younger son of Alexander Nevsky, who became the progenitor of the Moscow grand princes and tsars. It opens the famous cycle "Rulers of Moscow," which is a unique historical chronicle-epic covering almost a two-century period of Russian history. It is in this work that for the first time in Russian literature, the world of Russian medieval times is recreated with a unique degree of accuracy, completeness, and historical authenticity. Fragments from the work of the 19th-century historian and publicist D.I. Ilovaisky's "History of Russia" complement D.M. Balashov's work. The project "Collectors of the Russian Land" is being implemented by the Russian Military-Historical Society with the support of the party "United Russia."
