2010. Maddie works as a doctor in a seaside resort town and is happy with her ten-year-old son Esteban. But one idyllic summer day, after Esteban went for a morning swim in the sea and ran to the bakery about 150 meters away, he disappeared without a trace.
2020. Maddie still hasn't come to terms with Esteban's disappearance. She doesn't believe that her son is dead, as the police concluded. Maddie is convinced that he was kidnapped. She left the seaside town long ago and tries to move on, but something compels her to return to the beach where she was last with Esteban. Unexpectedly, she sees her son - the same appearance, the same age, even wearing the same swim trunks. Time seems to stand still for Maddie. Is this really Esteban? Or could this boy be his reincarnation? From that moment on, Maddie becomes obsessed with the idea that she must find out who this boy named Tom is. She moves to Overn, where Tom lives with his mother. The more Maddie spies on Tom, the more uncanny the resemblance between Tom and Esteban seems to her. The same interests, the same fears... How far is she willing to go to uncover the truth? And to save him - because with all her being, she feels that the boy is in danger.
