Olga Fedorovna Berggolts was a legendary Leningrad poetess. During almost nine hundred days of the siege, she was the 'voice of the City': remaining in besieged Leningrad, she addressed her fellow citizens on the radio, and her words helped them maintain their spirit and hope. She was called the 'Leningrad Madonna' and revered, as Daniil Granin put it, 'like the blessed, the saints'. However, Olga Berggolts was a poet not only of civic, but also of immense lyrical power. Her personal story was tragic: she lost loved ones multiple times, experienced the death of children, war, and the collapse of faith in revolutionary ideals... All of this also found its embodiment in her poems. This edition includes the best works of the poetess.
