Jamie Goldberg is a volunteer at the local candidate's campaign headquarters for the Senate. He loves his job very much, although he tries to stay behind the scenes. Talking to strangers is a big challenge for him, and going door-to-door to campaign for his candidate is a nightmare. But then he meets Maya... Maya Reiman is having the worst summer of her life. Her best friend has gone off to college, a trip to Italy fell through, her parents are getting divorced, and now, at her mother's insistence, she has to participate in campaigning for the local elections paired with some awkward guy. Of course, spending all summer persuading neighbors to come out and vote is not the most pleasant activity, but as the election day approaches, the atmosphere in the campaign headquarters heats up and the relationship between Jamie and Maya becomes more complicated.
