This is a book about Yefim Pavlovich Slavsky (1898-1991), the Minister of Medium Machine Building of the USSR, one of the main creators of the domestic nuclear industry, and a three-time Hero of Socialist Labor. He was directly involved in all stages of the formation and development of the Soviet state. As part of the atomic project, Slavsky worked with I. V. Kurchatov, B. L. Vannikov, A. P. Zavenyagin, M. G. Pervukhin, Yu. B. Khariton, and Ya. B. Zeldovich. He built the first industrial nuclear reactor named "Annushka" and as the Minister of Medium Machine Building from 1957, he effectively led the entire huge nuclear industry during its peak. Under Slavsky's leadership, our country became a leader in the number and power of nuclear warheads, the first nuclear power plant was built, icebreakers and ships with nuclear engines were constructed, various types of nuclear reactors were developed, and related industries of the national economy flourished. Entire cities were built at his initiative where nuclear facilities were constructed and uranium was mined. Despite his high position, he remained modest throughout his life, and after his death, besides awards, there were no valuables left in his house.
