The purpose of the book "XSLT", 2nd edition - to teach the reader to effectively use XSLT. Considered both XSLT 1.0 and XSLT 2.0, as well as version 1.0 and 2.0 of the XPath language. The XSLT 2.0 specification has been complemented by a number of important opportunities, many of which are associated with changes in XPath 2.o. These two languages were designed based on sharing: XPath defines the transformed parts of the XML document, and XSLT indicates how the conversion should be performed.
In the initial chapters, the foundations of XSLT are considered, including simple style sheets and processor settings, special attention is paid to template-based transformations, the basic concepts of XPath 1.0 and 2.0 are discussed. You will learn how XML Schema support is integrated into XSLT 2.0, learn how to identify elements and data types and use them in your style tables. In final chapters, examples are considered in which all XSLT and XPath features are involved. You will see how the same task is solved in XSLT 1.0 and 2.0, which will help to decide which version is best suited for your project. The second part of the book contains applications in which hundreds of style tables are given, including examples for each element, function and operator defined in XSLT and XPath.
All chapters provide solutions to standard tasks in which XSLT manifests its extremely powerful and useful features. The use of XSLT 2.0 in many cases significantly simplifies the life of a programmer. The book is written as a textbook for those who begin to explore XSLT, and experienced professionals will be able to use it as a reference book on functions and various aspects of the language
