The main idea, through the thread passing through all the books, is the desire to give the reader the overall picture of Russia"s lives during the First World War at the present level of ideas, refusing the framework established for the previous, Soviet historiography and the presence of a number of its estimates. Of course, this does not mean that we reject the historiographic heritage: the authors of the Russian abroad (in Western and Russian), as well as researchers around the world for many decades used the works of the best historians of the Soviet Powers who managed to introduce a huge reservoir document to scientific turnover , journalists, memoirs and diaries. A number of their conclusions and observations still retains the value that is reflected in the represented three-volume. For this reason, the participants of this project considered it possible not to repeat the full set of topics and plots presented in the literature, trying, if possible, a new look at some, it would seem known questions and focus on pain points of the state and society relations. By genre affiliation, these volumes are not collective work, based on the unity of the concept, and not compilations are only thematically close to one to another articles, but the books of essays devoted to the versatile review and evaluation of one of the root problems of Russian history - the fate of the empire in connection with the First World War . The authors adhere to different views on the main issues related to the last years of the existence of the Russian Empire, it is easy to notice with attentive reading. The difference in estimates and performances is essential, but it reflects the state of modern knowledge. The editorial board did not set themselves her task. We can talk only about the total approach - the texts based on the facts, and not the author"s impressions. The authors are intended for their book not only by historians, but also a wide reader who sees now in the literature and the media numerous insistence in accordance with the old building needs and the peculiarities of the Russian and other nations of the Empire and the approval of the inspirition of the outside and artificiality of the Russian revolutionary process
