The book examines the causes and course of the World War I of 1914-1918 from the perspective of the involvement of Imperial Russia. The complex system of inter-imperialist contradictions predetermined Russia's place and role in the political and armed struggle. The realization of its interests and plans was significantly limited by the country's economic capabilities. The Tsarist regime increasingly could not bear the burden of the global conflict. Revolutionary changes and the exit from the war were ripening in the country.
An analysis of the results of the struggle of 1914-1918 shows that the main driving motives of imperialist rivalry, which a quarter of a century later led to the Second World War, remained in force.
