The collection presents scientific articles on the eightieth anniversary of Academician Yuri Derenikovich Apresian, one of the most prominent linguists of our country. Among the authors of articles, both world-famous scientists and younger students Yu.D.Apresyan and his colleagues from Russia, Belarus, Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Canada, Poland, USA, Finland and the Czech Republic. In the book of 7 sections, the subject of which reflects the breadth of the scientific interests of the jubilee: semantics and pragmatics of language units, lexicography, syntax and semantics of syntax, applied linguistics and translation problems, typology, linguistics and poetics, language philosophy. In the preface, written by I.A. Melchuk, the nearest colleague and another Yu.D.Apresian, briefly outlines the most important scientific results of the jubilee in theoretical linguistics, lexicography and applied linguistics
