The Book of the Witches was published in 1983, and immediately won three awards: the New York Times, the Award of the Federation of Children"s Book Societies and the Utbredovsky Prize. In 1990, the Witches were filmed in the UK, in 2008, the radio spectacle was released on the BBC radio and the premiere of the opera to the music of the Norwegian composer Marcus Paus
