Today, worldwide universities are more than ever before. However, a clear understanding of the tasks of universities is absent, and moreover, skepticism is observed in relation to their value. The famous British historian of ideas Stefan Collini calls us to rethink the ideas about universities. He challenges the thesis that universities should show: they help earn money to justify getting big money for themselves. Instead, he proposes to recognize the existence of various types of institutions playing different roles. We must realize that the intellectual search is one of the fundamental needs of a person and the most important functions of university education - cannot be limited to current social and economic tasks
