Description
'White Shadows' is a novel about the women who brought Emily Dickinson's poems to light. Preserving the main milestones of the history of this publication, Dominique Fortier delicately intertwines truth and fiction, immersing us in a fragile and delicate world woven from the images of Dickinson's poetry.
For Fortier, writing a book is an opportunity to live multiple lives at once. Continuing the story of 'Cities on Paper' (an essay about E. Dickinson was published in Russia in 2022), the writer creates a book about experiencing loss, the power of words, hope, and creativity.
Dominique Fortier is a writer and translator, born in Quebec in 1972. She defended her dissertation on French literature at McGill University, worked in various publishing houses, and is the author of five novels. She is the laureate of the French Gens de mer (Seafarers) Prize and the Governor General's Award, the highest literary prize in Canada. Her book 'Cities on Paper' was awarded the prestigious Renodo Prize for essays (2020).
