The book is the tenth volume in a series dedicated to the history of the White Movement in Russia and events on the North-Western Front from the fall of 1918 to the beginning of 1920, based on the memoirs of its participants. It extensively covers the military activities of such well-known military leaders of the time as N.N. Yudenich, Prince A.P. Liven, A.P. Rodzyanko, A.E. Vandam, Count A.P. Palen, P.V. Glazenap, K.I. Dyrdorov, B.S. Permikin, S.N. Bulak-Bulakhovich, P.R. Bermondt-Avalov, and others. Special attention is paid to the complex military-political aspects of the relationships between the White armies and former allies (the British and the French) and former enemies (the Germans), as well as with the Baltic countries seeking independence. The book portrays the tragedy of the Russian armies in Estonia, forced to disband and turn into a mass of refugees after an unsuccessful campaign towards Petrograd, ending up in Estonian camps for forced forest labor for "individuals without defined occupations." The book is supplemented with extensive and previously unpublished comments containing several hundred unknown biographical notes about the authors and heroes of the essays.
