In 2004, Tel Aviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Monument as a model of modernist architecture and urban planning. Today"s Tel Aviv proudly whitts against the background of the desert sky, and his architecture, inspired by Bauhaus, almost does not give out the traces of his predecessor-the Arab city of Jaffa.
In his book, the author talks about how for several decades of a radical cultural and historical revision there was a myth about Tel Aviv as a “White City”, which arose on empty dunes, completely ignoring the real evolution of the city, primarily associated with “ Washing »Jaffa. Tel Aviv began to perceive Jaffa as his own negative-not a shining “white city”, but a night, criminal, “black city”. The myth of the birth of Tel Aviv arises on the ruins of the language, history and architecture of Yaffa
