"What Color is Pain?" is a collection of essays by the well-known journalist and writer Natalia Sukhinina. It is said that prison is an "earthquake of the soul," and it is all the more tragic and frightening when a woman finds herself at the epicenter of this earthquake. The main heroines of Natalia Sukhinina's new book are ordinary women, our contemporaries, who have ended up in prison. Each of them, regardless of age, already here on earth, bears the inevitable punishment for sin, for crimes against God's commandments. Many, who also sin "trivially," manage to avoid this visible legal punishment, maintaining a decent reputation in the eyes of society. But as folk wisdom says, "do not swear off prison or poverty." These women do not need our sympathy, only understanding, because in addition to human judgment, they have also faced another Judgment - the Judgment of God. Through emotional suffering, pain, and tears, each of them found their way to faith, to God. The book does not feature fictional characters or events, although the names of the heroines have been changed. Their bitter and instructive experience may make someone pause at the fatal line. The book is written in such a vivid and figurative language that hardly any reader will remain indifferent to the fates of its heroines.
