The third book in the series "Russia: Places, Events, People" is dedicated to the Smolensk land - the Western shield of Russia. The authors do not specifically focus on Smolensk itself. The heroes are the Smolensk and partially Pskov lands, and in general, the western direction from Moscow, the events that took place in these areas, and the people whose destinies are connected with this land. The book also consistently and in detail presents the author's view on the history of the emergence of Russia from the moment when Slavic tribes were pushed out of Central Europe. The book is illustrated with the author's photographs. The publication is intended for local historians, as well as anyone interested in the history of Russia.
