The textbook presents the material of the lecture course "Medieval Art of Western Europe", which is taught to students of the Orthodox St. Tikhon's Humanitarian University. The chronological framework of the material is the 5th-15th centuries, with a geographical scope covering Western European countries: Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and England. The textbook describes the main stages of development of medieval art: architecture, sculpture, painting, and decorative arts. Special attention is paid to the stylistic evolution of the artistic language - from late Antiquity to Gothic and Romanesque styles. To provide a more comprehensive understanding of the artistic features of each period, the book is richly illustrated with images of the most important monuments. This edition is intended for students of higher educational institutions studying various artistic disciplines.
