The book "West is against the East. 2500 years of the first battle "dedicated to the first large -scale military conflict between the West and the East - the sea battle on September 28, 480 BC. Under the island of Salamin, where a small flotilla of ancient Greek ships won over the huge Persian fleet. The book includes fragments of the works of ancient authors dedicated to this event: "History" Herodotus (Book Eight), the tragedy of Aeschylus "Persian", the poem "Persian" Timofei Miletsky, a biographical essay from the "Comparative Biographies" Plutarch. The book was supplemented by the dramatic works of the XVIII-XIX centuries on this subject, which were never previously published: translation into Russian of the tragedy "Femistocles" of the Italian playwright Pietro Metastasio and the libretto of the Opera Femistocles" poet Gabriel Derzhavin. The collection completed the poetic creations of the new Greek authors: "Heroic songs" of the national hero of Greece Rigas Fereos and poems from the poem "Anthem Freedom" Dionysios Solomos, which have become the national anthem of modern Greece
