The book proposed to the reader is the dissertation for the first -prepared dissertation by the Jews" Ethnographer Isa Mendelevich Puliner (1900-1942), which he worked on in 1940.
Puliner worked in the Russian Ethnographic Museum and died at his workplace during the Leningrad blockade. The unfinished manuscript containing unique materials lay without movement for more than eighty years in the scientific archive of this museum (on REM).
Now, thanks to the support of the Jewish Museum and the Center for Tolerance, the manuscript of the dissertation has become a monograph. The text of the puller is supplemented by comments, it is accompanied by the biography of the researcher, the historical and archeographic review of the collection of documents I.M. Puliner in Ram, a selection of texts of Jewish wedding songs and an article dedicated to the music of the Ashkenazy wedding.
Presenting this monument of scientific thought, we hope that the publication of the dissertation of I. M. Pulner will not only allow you to introduce the name and work of an unfairly forgotten scientist, but will also pave the way on which the work of other researchers of Jewish history will return to readers and cultures that worked in the first half of the twentieth century
