In the semi-abstract prose of Alexey Konakov, phenological observations, meteorological forecasts, questions of housekeeping, and concerns of family life are organized around one - distinctly paranoid - idea. The main character not only feels the fundamental wrongness, the 'distortion' of the surrounding world, but also firmly knows who exactly is to blame for this 'distortion'. The confidence of the insane 'understanding' and the anguish of the inability to change anything are combined and find an outlet in speech - also distorted, stuttering, caricatured, and at the same time tender.
