I. M. Firshinsky is a famous oriental scientist, the author of many works on Arabic history and literature. On the slope of the years he tells about what he experienced himself during the years of repression when he was sent to Stalin"s camps. From most of the previously published camp memories "we step under cone" are distinguished by the lack of exposure pathos. He draws a camp as the kingdom of a tragic absurd, in which, however, there is a place of love and compassion. Filbinsky narrates not so much about himself as the people with whom fate failed a young scientist in Gulag. Each head of the book is essentially - this is a whole novel, compressed to the volume of the novel
