The Encyclopedia of Richard Ernest and Trevor Nevitt Dupuy is a comprehensive reference edition that reflects the evolution of military art from Antiquity to the present day. In one volume, a vast amount of material is collected and systematized: a colossal volume of archival documents, rare maps, statistical data summaries, excerpts from scientific works, and detailed descriptions of the greatest battles. For the convenience of using the encyclopedia, the history of humanity is conditionally divided into twenty-two chapters, each dedicated to a time period from the 4th millennium BC to the end of the 20th century. Essays preceding the chapters contain information on the principles of tactics and strategy of a particular period, features of armament, development of military theoretical thought, and outstanding military leaders of the era. The encyclopedia contains two indexes: mentioned names in the text, as well as wars and significant armed conflicts. All this will help the reader to recreate and understand the historical fabric as a whole, to understand the reasons for a particular war, to trace its course, and to evaluate the actions of commanders. The memoirs contain many interesting observations on Russian diplomatic life, paint vivid portraits of Soviet leaders and officials, as well as the entire "political climate" of Soviet life in the late twenties and early thirties. Particularly interesting are the episodes from Stalin's life provided by the author, memories of Stalin's relationship with Trotsky, and the characterization of the Soviet Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Litvinov.
