Leo Tolstoy's (1828-1910) epic novel "War and Peace" is one of the most famous works of world literature. Created in the second half of the 19th century, it raises important questions about human life and society. Tolstoy shows how in times of dramatic trials, the true values of life become clear - love, human closeness, and the joy of communication. Tolstoy wrote: "The goal of the artist is not to definitively resolve the question, but to make people love life in its countless, never-ending manifestations." In the 20th century, the outstanding artist Andrey Vladimirovich Nikolaev created various cycles of color and black-and-white illustrations for "War and Peace," which remain exceptional for their accuracy, brightness, and expressiveness. This edition reproduces around 200 illustrations, many of which are kept in museums.
