Collection of exclusive materials of the correspondence of the International Seminar of the Russian Institute dedicated to the results of the five-day war. Events August 8, 2008 were a harsh exam for the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev. The country turned out to be in front of a real challenge - it could be smeared with a global chessboard, leaving outside the game. It is naively to believe that Georgia threatened only South Ossetia - the entire Caucasus was under the blow. If it were not for the decisive actions of President Medvedev, today Russia would be without the Caucasus. And perhaps, there would be no Russian state itself. In a risky and dangerous game, whose name is world politics, our country has made a tough bet, demonstrated strength and retained sovereignty, turned out to be an independent player. Russia announced that without it the game was impossible, and defended its right to determine its rules.
