The book presents a philosophical analysis of the poem "The Conference of the Birds" (Mantiq al-Tayr) by Farid al-Din Attar of Nishapur (1145/46–1221) - one of the greatest Persian Sufi poets. The study reveals two layers of meaning in the poem: the explicit, referring to the poetic narrative, and the hidden, Sufi. This inherent parallelism of the two layers of meaning reflects the fundamental truth of creation from the perspective of philosophical Sufism: the "parallelism," the mirroring of God and the world. In classical Arab-Muslim culture, the parallelism between the structure of the poem and its main idea serves as a sign of the composer's skill, and uncovering such parallelism opens the way to an adequate understanding of the entire poem. As an appendix to the monograph, selected chapters from the poem "The Conference of the Birds" are published. The book is addressed to a wide range of readers interested in classical Persian poetry and the history of Arab-Muslim philosophy.
