The autobiographical book of the Russian-American Writer Maxim D. Susrara was written in English and reached in the United States in 2007 called "Waiting for America". In the summer of 1987, a twenty-year-old young man, the main hero of the book, leaves Moscow along with his parents and emigrates to the West. The past of the Jewish family was fitted in five baggage suitcases. Behind - years of refusal, ahead is complete unknown. When the aircraft from Moscow landed in Vienna, a new life began for the former Soviet citizens. Emigration frightened and amazed at the same time. Three months spent in Austria and Italy, waiting for an American visa, turned to the hero and the entire respective family at the present adventure on the way to the long-awaited America.
Why is the book worth reading: this is not only a confessional story about emigration and the exciting history of love adventures, but also the manifesto generation of young people who left the former Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s and west. Between the Soviet past, which remained behind, and the ghostly future - America, with its entry openness and the unknown, the time of expectations and hopes, touching and abstensive is described by the world asking and bright. Nowadays, emigration again, as many years ago, becomes one of the most discussed topics in society. With merciless accuracy, the book tells about the last wave of emigration from the USSR. This unusually consonant in our time is an autobiographical book - at the same time a look from the inside and look from the outside to the key points of Soviet history and the culture of the 1980s
