Evgeny Lvovich Schwartz (1896–1958) was a Soviet writer, playwright, screenwriter, and author of famous plays such as 'A Common Miracle', 'The Shadow', and 'The Dragon'. Evgeny Schwartz used his writing talent not only in his artistic works but also in his personal diaries, where he candidly described episodes from his own life and the history of his acquaintance and friendship with outstanding cultural figures of the 20th century. Among his close acquaintances were Samuil Marshak, Korney Chukovsky, Daniil Kharms, Nikolai Oleynikov, Mikhail Zoshchenko, and others. In this autobiographical novel based on the author's diaries, the reader will meet a smart, subtle, open, friendly, and ironic person.
