The works of Saint Symeon the New Theologian (949-1022), an outstanding Byzantine writer-mystic, reflect the traits of his unique personality. The central theme of his writings is the encounter with Christ Himself, spiritually transforming the individual. According to the venerable Symeon, personal experience of communion with God is necessary for salvation and is accessible at all times to every believer in Christ and His eternal Gospel (Rev. 14:6), for Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8).
