The book of the outstanding Slavist and church historian Fairy von Lilienfeld (1917–2009) on the art of preaching was born out of a dissertation defended by the author in Berlin in 1961. This is one of those works for which von Lilienfeld is called a theologian in Slavic studies and a Slavist in theology. The translation from German was done by priests Nikolai Solodov and Maxim Sorokin based on the edition: Lilienfeld F., von. Nil Sorskij und seine Schriften. Die Krise der Tradition in Russland Ivans III. Berlin: Evangelische Verlag, 1963. 336 p.
