The Republic of Uzbekistan is a young state, but its history dates back to ancient times. Over the centuries, this land has been a crossroads of cultures and incredible events. The Great Silk Road passed through here, and Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, and Islam flourished. Timur turned Samarkand into the largest cultural center in the region, where many scholars of that time lived, worked, and thrived. The armies of great conquerors of the past, such as Alexander the Great and Tamerlane, also left their mark on these lands. "As long as the people live, the land will not run dry" - goes the popular proverb. Let it be so!
