The 1940-1980s became a special epoch in the history of the school in the USSR, as well as in the countries of Eastern and Western Europe. In the post-war era, the school on both sides of the Iron Curtain faced a number of complex problems that teachers and students, and educational administrators should have been reacted. The answer to this crisis has become a rapid growth of new educational institutions and many projects and programs for the reform of education, often utopian. The authors of this collective monograph are considering several of the most important ideas that have been incarnation in state and local educational initiatives of the post-war period: new collectivism, an individual approach to the child, school polytechnation, a combination of planning and creative principle in organizing education. In the collection, we are also talking about continuity and gaps with pedagogy of previous periods (1900-1930s), about the fate of various school disciplines, as well as about the image of school and schoolchildren in literature and cinema. The articles of the collection are devoted to school education and extracurricular forms of organizing children in the Republics of the USSR, in Hungary, Yugoslavia, Sweden and Germany
