The study guide analyzes the historical stages of the formation of public diplomacy of the United States and its most successful, as well as unsuccessful projects. Attention is paid to the analysis of the relevant activities of the American government during the Cold War period. The US public diplomacy programs in Russia in the period of the 1990s and in the post-Soviet space in the 2000s are considered. Such modern aspects of public diplomacy, as an ideological confrontation between the United States and Iran, the United States in Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as projects of digital diplomacy of the United States are being investigated. The activities of government departments participating in the formation and implementation of US public diplomacy programs are shown, the forms and methods for the implementation of modern US public diplomacy are shown.
