Anna Korob is a Russian documentary photographer. Abandoned churches, decaying estates, deserted villages - these are the main subjects of her reports. For five years now, Anna has been traveling around the country in search of abandoned historical monuments lost in the Russian provinces. Her hobby has grown into research work that draws attention to the disappearing objects of cultural heritage.
A huge number of historical monuments are scattered throughout our country. A large volume of Russia's cultural heritage is currently under threat. Hundreds of objects representing cultural or historical value disappear irretrievably every year, and many of them have not yet been studied by historians and archaeologists.
It is hard to imagine now, but 150 years ago, any small town or tiny village was unthinkable without an Orthodox church. Before falling into disrepair, each of them for centuries welcomed thousands of parishioners.
The magnificent estates of the Russian aristocracy, where life once thrived. Meanwhile, the Russian estate and its culture are the richest and most unique layer of historical heritage, a forgotten world created by our ancestors over two centuries. The charm of Russian estates is reflected in all forms of art - they were described in novels, filmed about, and praised in poems. Today, these buildings are in disrepair, but their walls hold memories of bygone times.
There is a frightening and amazing beauty in forgotten architectural monuments. These reminders of a rich culture of the past are preserved in many cities and villages of Russia.
