The textbook reflects the main stages, methods, the types of convergence of Russian and foreign media as leading factors for the formation of a universal journalist. The characteristic of the printed media in the process of convergence is described, the transformation of television and broadcasting under the influence of convergence is described, systemic typological signs of new media and Internet media are presented. The focus is on the specificity of the activities of the universal journalist in the convergent edition: video and photography, radio material recording, creating a media library for different types of media. Ways to search for information on the Internet, a system of genres and formats of universal journalism, mobile networks, blogosphere, video hosting, podcasting, mobile telephony. The principles of sociological activities of a universal journalist and the originality of advertising journalism are considered.
The practical part of the textbook contains seminar work plans, tasks for independent work, exercises for creating media texts, guidelines, a dictionary of major terms, materials on the preparation of a graduate creative portfolio.
