Based on a vast amount of sources and literature, the book presents a new version of events from one of the most eventful periods in the history of the 20th century. For the first time in domestic historiography, these events are viewed through the prism of German interests and the logic of the elite of Imperial Germany, whose representatives from March to November 1918 determined the fates of vast territories, trying to control them not only in Berlin or Moscow, but also in Petrograd, Kovno, Constantinople, Kiev, Sevastopol, Novocherkassk, Tiflis, Baku... Behind the superficial perception of chaos, absurd mistakes, or unrestrained appetites, a complex picture emerges of the struggle between the most diverse forces and among the warring parties, and within each of them: clashes of personal sympathies, prejudices, and interests, often with fatal consequences for entire state projects, a ruthless struggle not of ideologies and principles, but of egos and fantasies, desperate attempts to cope with space and time themselves, squeezing the maximum out of the infrastructure and technology of the first quarter of the 20th century.
