The book offers a modern scientific perspective on the issue of the formation of Ukrainian-Russian relations during a pivotal historical epoch, when centuries-old social orders were decisively crumbling, entrenched traditions were being challenged, and the search for new fundamental principles, political-legal, state models of coexistence and activities of the two great Slavic peoples was underway. Using extensive documentary and factual material, the processes of creating a foundation for strengthening and developing full-scale fruitful cooperation, as well as the simultaneous emergence of complex negative trends that eventually led to serious contradictions and unforeseen collisions, are gradually and thoroughly traced, analyzed, and evaluated. Attempts are made to guide the reader towards drawing conclusions and lessons from the shared experience. Considerations are expressed regarding the level of historiographical exploration of the issue and the prospects for further research. Suitable for all those interested in domestic history.
