The revolutionary era (1917-1922) became a true 'moment of truth' for the people of Ukraine - a choice between two historically interconnected perspectives: the vector of socio-political development, as well as the definition of an appropriate place and role in the surrounding world, among other communities and societies. From a multitude of potential alternatives in the crucible of complex processes, the strategy of socialist construction and unity with other free peoples in a union of equal Soviet republics crystallized.
