The monograph is devoted to the study of the history of Ukraine and the Commonwealth in the first half of the 17th century, the period directly preceding the performance under the leadership of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, known in Soviet historiography as the “liberation war of the Ukrainian people”. In this work, the laws of the development of the society of the Commonwealth and Ukraine as a special part of this state are considered, the apparatus of public administration formed by these society, the system of political views and the representations of various public groups of the population in the first half of the 17th century, the phenomenon of "sarmatism" in the culture of the gentry of the Polish. The Lithuanian state, the process of forming a worldview and self -awareness of the actual Ukrainian people and, especially, its political elite during the time of the time of the time of time, the attitude of the Russian government to the events in Ukraine, its reaction to the news of the performance of the Cossacks under the leadership of Bogdan Khmelnitsky in 1648 The author pays much attention to the analysis of the historiography of the "Ukrainian question", and domestic historiography is considered in its development
