Arnold Margolin lived and acted in the era of terrible and irreversible changes. The accession of the Bolsheviks was marked by the complete abolition of the freedom of the oral and printed word, the abolition of all types of free human communication and movement. The destruction of transport, postal and telegraph messages led to the fact that the huge majority of the country"s population was divided by each other and cut off from the rest of the world. Undressed atamans in Ukraine called out to the dark instincts of the lower classes. Margolin tried his best to prevent the bacchanalia of pogroms. The Petliurian government clearly did not control the situation on the ground, the French turned a blind eye to atrocities. Being a living eyewitness to Jewish pogroms, Margolin, nevertheless, being a real patriot, acted in Europe as a lawyer of Ukraine. However, hopes for the rapid revival of independent Ukraine were soon faded
