The author of this book is the Russian publicist Nikolai Vladislavovich Volsky (1879–1964), better known by the pseudonyms N. Valentinov and E. Yurievsky. The reader will become acquainted with the memoirs of a man whose fate brought him into contact with the "leaders of symbolism." Among them are A. Bely, Ellis (L. L. Kobylinsky), V. Bryusov, and M. O. Gershenzon. A series of essays are dedicated to the poetry of Alexander Blok. N. Valentinov's book provides interesting and rich material for understanding certain aspects of Russian symbolism and a number of outstanding "actors" on its stage.
