The resignation, investigation, and arrest of the Minister of War V. A. Sukhomlinov during the First World War became unprecedented events. The political part of the accusations was based on the materials of the case of the gendarme colonel S. A. Myasoedov, who was executed in March 1915 on charges of espionage for Germany. Their joint pre-war service served as a reason for accusing Sukhomlinov of criminal negligence, and the fact that such an official held a key state position also undermined Emperor Nicholas II. Just as the "Myasoedov case" preceded the "Sukhomlinov case," the latter served as a prologue to the downfall of the Russian Monarchy. The roots of the scandal surrounding Sukhomlinov in 1915-1916 go back to the pre-war period when the Minister of War, who had significant influence over the Tsar, became the target of intrigues by various political forces and individuals. Being an experienced courtier, Sukhomlinov consistently emerged as the victor, but this only increased the number of his enemies. This study shows that insinuations against Sukhomlinov were largely predetermined by the structure of the state's political system. The study is mainly based on the materials of the investigative measures against Myasoedov and Sukhomlinov. Many documents are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The book consists of a series of historical essays that systematically examine various aspects of the intrigues against the Minister of War, primarily related to his relationship with Myasoedov.
